This was the single most challenging project I’ve ever undertaken. The scale and complexity were on a whole new level. I led the strategy, ideation and creation of Facebook’s entire presence at the Cannes Lions Festival in 2019. And by all accounts, it was incredibly successful.
Everything you see below was created from scratch. I worked with all internal Facebook brands (Instagram, Messenger, etc.) and teams to develop custom individual activations that all had to unite in a cohesive master experience. The space had to flex to handle everything from 1000-person parties to intimate impromptu C-suite chats. In addition to the massive multi-functional beach experience, we also had an entire hotel for 200+ sales meetings and 20+ partner events happening around Cannes during the week. I’m incredibly proud of my team in that we far exceeded our clients’ and competitors’ expectations of what this experience could be.
The entire space gets built in about 72 hours. To make that possible, everything was designed down to the smallest detail well before a single tool was lifted. Final 3D renders of the space are below for comparison to the final results.
